Homepage Recommendation

A homepage must identify the website and develop a consistency that will allow for visitors to come back. Currently, the website’s homepage that can be accessed at sga.tamucc.edu has some positive and negative qualities.

A concept that must be taken into consideration is to “identify the site.” According to Redish (2012), “[a] site’s logo, name, and tag line must identify it” (p. 75). The current SGA website includes the outdated SGA logo and has a Letter from the President and Vice President. The letter has nothing to do with the website and I recommend that it be moved to the “Executive” link. Since I took office, we’ve been using the tag line, “Riding the Wave Forward” – this should be placed under the logo to be consistent with other promotional material. Another concept is to help people get a sense of what the site is all about. This can be done by making it instantly clear what the site is all about, include links, and include calls to action (Redish, 2012, p. 78). After the letter is removed, I recommend simply inserting a short statement stating something like: “Enjoy the website, visit the links to learn more!” A good thing about the website, is that there are already easily accessible links on the right hand side of the site for viewers to access.

Pathways | Positive Apsect

The links on the right side of the webpage are somewhat similar to pathway pages as they allow for a quick overview of what is offered on the website and allows for the viewer to decide what they want to visit or learn about. Because of this, a concept is fulfilled in which it allows for the viewers to get a sense that it is like a table of contents. This s a positive aspect of the SGA website and I do not recommend making any changes to this.
