Additions to be made to the Website:

Recommendations for Using Key Messages

Since the SGA website is very outdated, I suggest reviewing the text already on the website and writing new material to include. When doing so, it is critical to recognize that the readers do not have a lot of time to sit back and read everything. Using the Inverted Pyramid Style of writing allows for a reader to gain interest in the message/text and collect information quickly. To do this, the writer must 1) put the key message in the headline to create a main point. 2) Write supporting information in order that is relevant to the readers, and finally 3) include history or background, if it is even needed at all. According to Redish (2012), “ journalists and technical writers know that many readers skim headlines and the first paragraphs of articles. That’s why they write in inverted pyramid style – with the main point first” (p. 136).

See Figure 5 for a visual edit of the Inverted Pyramid Style.

Add "Marketing Moments" Recommendations

As we know, many viewers of the SGA website visit to learn about SGA, and to also become involved in the organization. Because we know exactly what the viewers are visiting for, we can use the moments they are on the page as “marketing moments,” which are moments in which the readers are ready to hear what we have to offer. Finding the right marketing moment is a concept to always keep in mind. As soon as visitors visit the home page, it would be a great idea to include a message stating “Join SGA” as well as mention that the website includes valuable information to get a better understand of what SGA does and what it is about.

Lastly, one last concept to be used to add additions to the website would be to not miss good marketing moments. If my recommendation is made, the marketing to Join SGA would be upfront on the home page, so it is important to carry additional marketing moments throughout the entire website. Since SGA has tools to help in their marketing such as social media (Facebook and Instagram), there could possible be links at the bottom of each page for social media sites so that if the readers add SGA they can constantly hear updates from the organization.

See Figure 6 for an example of links to Facebook and Instagram that could be placed on the bottom of each page of the SGA website. Click on the buttons to visit the appropriate websites.
